It is the first Friday of November which can mean only one thing, it's Ina Friday! Today our blogging group will choose and write a post about an Ina Garten dessert. I have been pouring over the Barefoot Contessa's dessert recipes for several days and finally chose Ina's French Apple Tart. November and apples just seem to go together, don't you think?
For the last few weeks I haven't been baking very much. I was happy to have an excuse for making something sweet. The thing I like most about this tart is that it isn't actually very sweet. The apples are clearly the standout in this recipe.
The granny smith apples are perfect in this tart. They give it a nice tartness and they are just juicy enough to caramelize the edges of the crust without drowning the tart. Ina knows best!
Finishing the tart with strained apricot jam is genius. It gives the apples a nice sheen and adds a subtle flavor that I like.
I used my apple corer and the job of preparing the apples took two minutes. I couldn't get by without my old fashioned spiral apple peeler. Who thinks of these things
Today is our 14th wedding anniversary. Michael and I will be enjoying this tart for breakfast with a hot cup of coffee before it debuts here on Friday.
Don't you just love this sweet little plate? I picked it up at Home Goods for $2.99 during a retail therapy session on Sunday. I love the texture for photographing food. It plays a nice supporting role to the star of the show.
In case you haven't heard, Ina had a new cookbook released last week featuring old and new recipes with tips on how to make them ahead of time. You can check it out here.
Well, that's it for my contribution to Ina Friday this month. Apparently the Ina Friday Blogging group is coming to an end. I must have missed that memo! Please stop by and visit the other Ina Friday bloggers and see what Ina dessert recipe inspired them this month.
