Savory Breakfast Grits


  • 1 ½ cups water
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup quick cooking grits
  • 2 TBS heavy cream
  • 2 pats of butter
  • 3 slices of cooked crumbled bacon
  • Grated cheese
  • Sliced scallions
  • Hot sauce


  • Add the salt to the water and bring to a rolling boil. Slowly whisk in the grits, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Continue cooking until the grits are thickened and the water absorbed. Remove from eat and stir in the cream. Pour the grits into a bowl or onto a serving plate. Garnish with butter, bacon, cheese, scallions, and hot sauce. Enjoy immediately while piping hot.
